Media Release - Industry orchestrates Tyndalls wilderness announcement as public sidelined
26 July 2019
The spectacular and fragile Tyndall Range was announced by the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania and Premier Hodgman today as the next publicly-funded walk for private enterprise in Tasmania’s wilderness. Because the Tyndalls are such a fragile mountain wilderness, we do not support this plan and we are already getting messages of despair from wilderness lovers who have cared for the Tyndalls for years.

Media Release: Tasmania sends more carbon-rich Tarkine forests to destruction
“Tasmanian Premier Hodgman is driving the logging of Australia’s largest temperate rainforest in takayna / Tarkine and critically endangered species’ habitat in the state’s unique native forests. Premier Hodgman has locked in more woodchipping of threatened species’ habitat, more loss of wilderness forests and more public subsidies to prop up a failing, outdated business model,” Bob Brown Foundation’s Jenny Weber said.
“Just like the huge rise in the destruction of the Amazon forests under Brazil’s right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro, we are seeing a fresh assault on our own little Amazon, takayna / Tarkine, under Tasmania’s right-wing leader Will Hodgman,” Jenny Weber said.

Colourful ‘Stop Adani’ protests in Canberra and Sydney are ‘just the start’ of plans to take the issue global, Bob Brown said outside the Indian High Commission today.
More than two hundred people holding banners and chanting ‘Stop Adani’ were outside the High Commission in Canberra and another 35 at the Indian Consulate in Sydney. ‘Our protest is against this obscene opening of the Galilee Basin coal, to inject more greenhouse gases into Earth’s biosphere than the whole of the rest of Australia, and it is building,’ Brown said.
