  This family-friendly exhibition will feature the brand new virtual reality film called “THIN ICE VR”. This incredible, immersive film takes you into the world of modern-day adventurer Tim Jarvis, as he recreates the famous events of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s voyage and discovers that climate change had drastically impacted the region.

  Protect Antarctica: An Exhibition will begin on August 15th with an opening night that includes:

  Sydney Electorate constituents, we need you! 

  Before the election, the then-Environment Minister Sussan Ley withdrew a decision that she had made regarding the EPBC permit for these preliminary works. This decision, now fallen to Tania Plibersek as the new Environment Minister, was due weeks ago.

  Due to sustained pressure from community supporters and activists around the country, Tania Plibersek has requested extra time for this decision. Because she knows that allowing rare Tasmanian wilderness to be cleared for a toxic tailings dam is unconscionable.

  We now need a group of dedicated Sydney activists, from within Ms Plibersek’s own electorate, who can help us bring this matter close to home. 
  
  

  We are holding a Tarkine campaign session next Saturday in Sydney CBD, where you can come along and learn all about how you can help as a Sydney Tarkine community activist.

  Venture Minerals are presenting at the Gold Coast Mining Investment Showcase next Thursday, and we want to be there to remind their investors exactly what is at stake. 

  Venture Minerals have put forward two referrals for unnecessary, ecologically destructive and risky mines in the World Heritage verified rainforests and heathlands of takayna / Tarkine. Bob Brown Foundation has been disrupting Venture Minerals activities in the forests, in the board room and in the investment markets to ensure that these mines never eventuate.

  Venture Minerals need to raise $50million to develop its tin, tungsten and iron ore mine at Mt Lindsay. They will be using the Brisbane Mining Conference as an opportunity to attract investors to fund their destructive mines. 

   

  

   

  We need you to join with us outside the venue as potential investors arrive to let them know that these projects are environmental vandalism, and that public opposition will mean any investment in Venture Minerals is risky.

   

  We'll be meeting at 7.55am next Thursday the 23rd of June, outside the JV Marriot Gold Coast Resort and Spa in Surfers Paradise. All you need to do is RSVP via the link above, and then turn up for an hour on the morning - we'll bring all the materials!

  Can you give us one hour in defence of takayna’s rainforests?

  

  Venture Minerals are appearing at the Sydney Resources Roundup to spruik investment in their proposed tin and iron ore mines in takayna / Tarkine’ rainforest. We have been joining defenders around the country protesting outside every investor forum that Venture appears at to make sure prospective funders know that this company has no social licence and faces an organised community campaign. Every time we have done this Venture’s share price has fallen as investors walk away from these toxic projects.

  You can help. We need Sydneysiders to join with us for one hour between 8am and 9am on Thursday 5^th May, outside the Hyatt Regency (161 Sussex St, Sydney) to hold banners and join a few chants to let prospective investors know that Venture Minerals is bad business.

  We know this works. Every time we have turned out at these forums we have seen Venture’s share price and market capitalisation fall. One hour of action can have a massive impact.

• Art for takayna 2022 7 rsvps

  We are holding the 2022 Art for takayna event over Easter. 
  
  This year, we plan to hold two static basecamps in the southern region of the Tarkine, and one remote roaming wilderness group. If there is enough interest, we will add additional camps. 
  
  This event will commence on Good Friday, April 15th at 4pm, and will finish on Easter Monday. 

  Artists will spend two full days and three nights immersed in threatened takayna / Tarkine, with ample opportunity for artists to hear about and engage with our campaign for protection of one of the last wild places on Earth.

  Art for takayna culminates in a collaborative exhibition in 2023, and artists are required to commit to one piece for exhibition.

  We will provide more information about specific locations for basecamps once we have assessed our applicants and resources. You will have the opportunity to select your own location. Each location will be bush camping, with the remote group requiring fully self-sufficient participants. 
  
  We are also seeking volunteers to pull this event together, including guides and cooks.

  Venture Minerals are determined to build two toxic mine projects in World Heritage value rainforests in takayna / Tarkine, and they're on the hunt for investors to fund these projects. 
  
  We are determined to let investors know that funding these projects is funding the destruction of ancient Gondwanan rainforests found nowhere else on the planet.

• NEW DATE - Communities for Forests Election Workshop - Sydney Inner West 11 rsvps

  The federal election is right around the corner, and our politicians are hitting the campaign trail. We want to put native forest protection at the top of the campaign agenda, but we need your help to join us.
  
  

  If you are in Sydney, please come along for this group workshop on Thursday 31 March, where we'll talk about ways to engage the community around us to build power and put our candidates on notice once the election is called.
  
  We'll be working as a group to strategise a plan for the upcoming election - identifying influential targets, allies and key moments to mobilise our local electorates. 
  
  

  All welcome - this workshop will be particularly useful for constituents and forest-lovers from Grayndler, Sydney, Wentworth, Kingsford Smith, Lowe, Reid, Blaxland, Watson, Parramatta, Bennelong and North Sydney electorates.

  Our takayna / Tarkine campaign team are heading to the Brisbane Mining Conference, happening on the 23-24th March!

  Venture Minerals have plans for a series of mines in the World Heritage verified rainforests and heathlands of takayna / Tarkine.   takayna Trail is a celebration of trail and ultra running with a purpose. 

  As the takayna Trail community, our main goal is to use our love for running to help protect takayna. We run to have takayna protected as a World Heritage listed National Park, returned to Aboriginal ownership.

  The takayna region of north-western Tasmania is home to one of the last undisturbed tracks of Gondwanan rainforest in the world and one of the highest concentrations of Aboriginal cultural heritage sites in the southern hemisphere. Yet this place, which remains largely as it was when dinosaurs roamed the planet, is currently at the mercy of destructive extraction industries, including logging and mining.

   

  

   

  This is Australia's first trail running event which directly links our love for recreating in wild and beautiful places with their immediate protection. Our inclusive community of adventure and single track stoke seekers includes not only runners but surfers, rock climbers, hikers, parents, grandparents, gardeners – the list goes on as we welcome participants and volunteers of all ages and stripes to join our takayna celebrations.

  takayna Trail incorporates ancient rainforests, moss-covered single track, centuries-old trees and lands which are rich and powerful in their natural beauty. We navigate this balance of the natural world, traversing through abandoned mining towns reclaimed by nature, forest-covered railway lines and tracks which could now be referred to as creeks. We cross rivers which harvest some of the cleanest water on the west coast of Tasmania and finish our day greeted by a warm welcome at our finish line and base camp in Waratah. 

  The takayna Trail ultramarathon invites runners and their support crews from across the nation, and indeed the globe, to spend time in this wild and ancient landscape. In doing so, they not only spend locally on accommodation, meals, and experiences, but they go home ambassadors for this region with their tales of how takayna moved them and the threats it still faces.

  Feel the freshest air in the world fill your lungs as you tackle our exciting new route. Traverse the giants of a eucalypt forest, the unique grassland plains with spectacular mountain views and through a stretch of Australia’s largest temperate rainforest.  

  Race day is Saturday 26th February 2022. Pre-race dinner and registrations will be held on Friday 25th February at Waratah Men's Shed, takayna, North West Tasmania.

  Entries are limited to 150 competitors, so get in quick to secure a spot. 

  We are, of course, sensitive to the complexities COVID19 holds for both our organisation and runners, so we will be carefully mapping a plan and adhering to all public health recommendations applicable to Tasmania. We remain optimistically cautious in our event planning, and look forward to being reunited with you all in the beautiful takayna.

• Toxic Salmon Sydney to Hobart Flotilla 84 rsvps

  Sydney to Hobart yacht race in Hobart, Australia

  Do you have a kayak, boat or sailing vessel? Join us for a flotilla when the first yachts of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race arrive and pass through the very waters where the toxic salmon industry intends to expand.

  The toxic salmon industry is expanding into incredible Storm Bay just outside of Hobart. Not only will this further destroy Tasmania's coastal waters, but it will also industrialise the entrance to the River Derwent and the final leg of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. 

  The yachts should start arriving on December 28th. Our idea is to follow the lead vessel(s) in and then congregate near the finish lines with as many vessels flying the TOXIC flag as possible.

  It's important to note that we are not interfering with the race in any way and will be abiding by all instructions from marshals.
  
  If you are not able to take to the water, you are welcome to join us on the shoreline. At this stage we'll be meeting as a group outside Mawson's Replica Hut at 3.15 pm on Tuesday 28th December, but again this time could change so stay tuned for updates.

• Action for Forests National Webinar

  Next Monday evening, we're hosting a national webinar on native forests, providing an opportunity for you to find out how to get involved in native forest campaigning in your local area.

  We'll be joined by great campaigners from Goongerah Environment Centre, Forest Defence NSW, and the Great Koala National Park, organisations that have all been fighting on the frontlines of logging and urbanisation of their local forests.

  As well as hearing about what is happening on the frontlines of forest destruction in Tasmania, NSW and Victoria, we'll be talking about our Native Forest Pledge and why we want to reach 500,000 signatures before the 2022 Federal Election. 

  Finally, we'll be using this webinar to pitch our native forest community organising plan to you. 

  This brand new campaign tactic is an opportunity for our supporters to get out and connect with others in their community over summer, to build real-life connections and local grassroots support for our Native Forest Declaration.

  Due to the WAFA screening on the same night, we have decided to change this event to a more casual, campaign catch-up style event. 
  
  Join us as we come together in Fremantle, the night before our Venture Minerals AGM action in Perth. 
  
  We'll be chatting about Tarkine and our campaign to protect our beautiful ancient rainforests in Tasmania, and you'll have the opportunity to meet our campaigners, to hear more about our campaign and find out a bit of information about the action on the following day. 

  We've booked a few tables in the back of the restaurant space at The Local Hotel in Fremantle from 6pm. We'll be wrapping up by 7pm - so you can head over to WAFA's screening at Luna Cinemas, also in Fremantle!

• Big Canopy Campout 2021

  The Big Canopy Campout is a global event bringing people into the trees to raise awareness and funds for global forests.

  During the event, we will be camping in and amongst the trees, occupying the canopies of these incredible, threatened forests in conjunction with people around the globe. We will be sharing stories, images and videos via social media as we experience the wonder and beauty of our incredible forests in takayna.

  There will be tagged walks, a chance to chat with our campaigners, climbing workshops for all abilities, a warm roaring fire and hot food and tea.

• International Day of Action on Big Biomass 2021

  On Thursday, 21st October, we'll be participating in a global Day of Action against Big Biomass. 

  Biomass is being touted as a new, innovative, 'renewable' energy that will decrease carbon emissions.

  But we know this is a greenwashed myth.

  Forest biomass releases even more carbon than coal and is just another excuse for propping up the destructive and economically senseless logging industry.
  
  We need to take a stand against biomass - we want to move away from burning carbon entirely, which means we don't want dirty coal power to be replaced with native forest furnaces! 
  
  
  
  Join the International Day of Action
  
  You can get active at home by joining our big banner action - we want to see banners in front yard trees all around the country!
  

  Home-made banners, with the message "Cut Carbon Not Forests" hanging in front yards and windows all around the country will send a clear and urgent message. 
  
  Using a recycled piece of fabric, an old tea-towel, or bedsheet and string, you can make a banner to hang in a tree in your front yard. 
  
  If you don't have a tree, you can simply make a sign (or print one of our pre-made ones), stick it in your front window, snap a picture and upload it to Instagram or Twitter. 

  Make sure you use the hashtag #BigBadBiomass so you'll be included in a virtual rally of people, all around the globe, taking action in unison!
