The Tarkine, otherwise known as takayna, the palawa kani/Aboriginal name for the Tarkine, is in the North West of Tasmania, and while it is a dramatic and powerfully awe-inspiring landscape, it is still one facing imminent threats.  Reckless off road vehicle access has carved through ancient shell middens, and an extractive mindset seeks exploitation of minerals and the logging of ancient forests in this World Heritage level gem of an area.

This wild place spanning 450,000 ha of diverse landscape, offers aesthetic qualities that encourage contemplation, reflection and refreshment of the soul. The art in this exhibition is the result of the creative minds working to protect this area and offers an expression of the vast areas values which, though often framed in scientific terms, also reflect emotional responses to a wild, pristine and nature dominated place.

Join us for the opening night of this exhibition as we share the story of takayna/Tarkine’s protection through the eyes of artists who journeyed here.

The full list of the artists and their artworks on display in the exhibition is available for download in PDF format here.
