In a major feat from our Foundation and citizens defending takayna / Tarkine, we have been defending Frankland River forests for 100 days.

More than 100 citizens have participated in our peaceful vigil in the Frankland River forests. We have stalled the logging since early February when the camp was re-established after the Wedge-tailed Eagle breeding exclusion zone ended and meant logging could commence in these ancient forests.

In solidarity and support, thirty citizens hosted a peaceful demonstration outside Tasmanian Minister for logging and mining Guy Barnett's office on Friday 18th May.

We woke to news of the extreme weather in Hobart (and to the south) and the chaos that ensued. In the Deloraine district, we knew that severe weather was not imminent here. Leaving home, a brilliant rainbow over Western Gorge (in kooparoona niara / Great Western Tiers) signalled a good day.

We arrived, donned our politician's garb – hi-vis vests over suits – and set up our tables, signs, boiled a kettle, made tea, put the 100 number candles on the cake and got out the hand-made card for those present to sign and ready to be delivered to Minister Barnett.

We lit the candles, voiced a rousing 3 cheers for takayna and her defenders and proceeded to eat cake and drink tea. Among the crowd of 30 were a local Aboriginal elder, a Meander Valley Councillor and a woman who'd travelled from Rocky Cape. Our photographer was kept busy capturing images of the hour we spent outside the Minister's office in Deloraine.
