Support our High Court Appeal
Bob Brown and Jessica Hoyt outside Hobart Magistrates Court, after their case was adjourned pending the outcome of the High Court case.
In 2014, Tasmania's parliament passed draconian anti-protest laws, designed to stop peaceful activism, specifically targeting forest protests. With fines of $10,000 for a first offence and 4 years in prison for a repeat protest, these laws are a brutal assault on free speech and the right to protest.
These laws are now being aped across Australia by governments bowing to pressure from big business and attempting to shut down peaceful protests.
On 10 March, Bob Brown launched an appeal to the High Court, seeking to strike down these laws as an affront to our democracy and a breach of the Australian Constitution.
We are a small not-for-profit environment group. But we know when a big issue needs to be taken on.
And it doesn't get much bigger than a High Court appeal to protect our basic democratic rights.
